Roadmap Team Retrospective:

  • What's working well?
  • What's not working well?
  • Ideas for improvement?
Andy

What's working well?

  • We're identifying some items for collaboration
  • Good track record of SMEs showing up to Technical Deep Dive sessions with a deck/information to share
  • good (consistent) attendance
  • Pooled resources for common problem is good
  • Sharing common issues/information "Im not the only one"
  • Good recognition by the OpenStack community as an official WG

What's not working well? Opportunities.

  • Original plan to form Functional Specialty teams and regularly occurring Technical session has not materialized
  • No roadmap
  • Make use of JIRA. still not use to the application.
  • Difficult to commit joint resources
  • Schedule gap between corporate financial schedule and LCOO schedule
  • Misconceptions about LCOO in the community
  • Viewed as 'elite', closed, clickish
  • Have not yet shown 'community contribution'
  • Meeting times are difficult with global membership
  • LCOO meetings/activity is largely disconnected from the development efforts member companies are engaged in

Ideas for Improvement

  • Focus on one tangible success story
  • End the meeting on time, having people dropping mid conversation because of other commitments can be a distraction
  • Increase membership - in terms of more organizations
    • Huawei - would be good to invite
    • Could be more open
    • (SK) Talking to Centurylink's internal team. Potential candidate.
    • Explicitly include opportunity for individuals who do not represent their company
    • If we have a specific objective, then we can call on people in the broader community to help
    • At the upcoming Summit or at any time, AT&T is willing to brief prospective new member's management team on the Mission and Vision for LCOO.
  • Is it right to have requirements for membership?
    • Say 'encouraged' vs 'required'
      • Should be real Operators
      • Should be real contributors
    • Do we still vote people/companies in?
  • Confluence & JIRA - should it be open to anonymous viewing
    • Provide clear instructions for creating an account
    • Add to openstack.org page
  • Make better use of Community email lists to advertise special sessions and invite attendance
  • Refresh/ask for more resources from our stakeholders
  • Improving error messages / logging is a good common opportunity
  • more communication outside skype meeting/ slack, email, irc
    • Should we set up an IRC channel?
  • Better connect LCOO activity with the actual development efforts companies are engaged in.
    • LCOO - the place for incubation/ideation phase
  • Would be good to better clarify role of roadmap meeting vs general sessions
